A home had a wooden floor put down in cool weather. As the weather warmed, the floor started to buckle. The floor was fixed by trimming the edges so there was space between the flooring and the wall. Why did this help to make the floor flat again?
Floor particles increase in warm weather increasing the kinetic energy making it expand. Trimming it gave it room to expand.
