What is the Scientific Method?
An educated guess. A prediction.
I measured the temperature in the beaker after the chemical was added.
I wonder: “What will happen to the temperature in the beaker when chemical “A” is added?”
I found that the temperature in the beaker increased 3 degrees Kelvin.
I repeated the experiment to make sure the results were valid.
I guessed that the temperature in the beaker would decrease when chemical “A” is added.
I concluded that the addition of chemical “A” causes a temperature increase.
I used the internet and did a “google” search to find out about chemical “A”.
Running in a lab is allowed if you are being careful.
Never reach across a flame when performing experiments.
You don’t have to notify your teacher for every little cut that you get on your finger during an experiment.
You must wear safety goggles when performing experiments.
It’s ok to taste and sniff unknown substances in a lab. You would never use anything in a lab experiment that could hurt you.
You should never use broken or chipped glassware
Always point test tubes away from you and other people in the lab when performing experiments.
If you have extra time at the end of an experiment, it’s ok to mix left over chemicals to see what might happen.
