In December 1941, Japan launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor (a United States naval base in Hawaii), killing around 2400 Americans and wounding about 1200. This attack brought the United States into World War II.
In April 1945, Allied forces entered Berlin. Hitler committed suicide. A few days later, on May 7, 1945, Germany surrendered.
