What other Teachers are saying about the Review Game Zone:
"I wanted to let you know that my kids love this site! I have always used other games sites in the past. I was so thrilled to discover teachers were able to make their own games. Thank you!!! My kids actually play at home when they get "bored"! That is awesome when they could be playing any computer game." ~ S. O.
"I discovered your site yesterday and I really enjoyed using your site in my classroom today. The students were very engaged. I can see your site being a huge benefit to many teachers." ~ S.A.
"This site is truly incredible (can not believe this is free)! My students love this site and I use it to motivate my students before an exam! Before each test I create a free game to get them studying!" ~ P.D.
"I have been able to log on and make numerous quizzes for my classes. :) We are a Classrooms For the Future school and incorporate tons of technology. This is just another way to do it. This type of review allows students to study independently and it frees us up to help with other issues and schoolwork. Thanks for your FREE website." ~ M.R.

Effectiveness of Games: As with anything, the students that want to study will, however, we have received reports from many teachers that students, who would typically not open their books to review for exams, are now parking themselves in front of the computer and playing a few free review games the night before the exams. We understand that this site is not meant to replace good old "studying" but teachers have seen a dramatic increase in student study habits by using this site. |
Question Preview: Each game has a "Preview Questions" option where students or teachers can preview the questions before or after playing them. You are able to print the questions found within the game data sets to allow for more in depth review.
School Districts Firewall and Website Blocking: Some schools are blocking this site. We have written to several districts and they informed me that this is being done because software automatically searches each website for certain keywords and phrases. One keyword from this site is "games" which many schools currently block automatically. It doesn't matter that these are "educational games", the system automatically blocks them. This site is 100% educational and can only improve student work habits! If this site is blocked at your school, please contact your system administration and let them know that this site may be blocked in error and request a manual review of this site. Most districts unblock the site once they realize this is a site dedicated to education and not just for playing free games.
How to Use the Site: A few days prior to the exam I usually create my test for the class. Then I log onto the free review game creation site (www.reviewgamezone.com) and browse the topics. I jot down each topic ID # which is located next to the game title (e.g.: Sedimentary Rocks (ID#: 4)) that is relevant for the particular exam on this study sheet, then print it out, make copies, and give it to my students as a way to prepare for exams.
Unique Game ID #: As mentioned earlier, each game has an ID #. This was done to allow students fast access to a particular game without having to “dig” or “search” through the site. An example: [Sedimentary Rocks (ID#: 4)]: Here you can see that the ID for this game is 4. If you think this game would benefit your students, simply tell them to plug the number 4 into the “Games by ID #” box located in the upper right hand corner of each page. Once you find a game, you can find it any time by entering its ID # in the “Games by ID #” text box on the right hand side of any page. This will bring you right to the game.
Games by Teacher: This feature allows your students to input your name into a search box and all of the games that you created will be displayed on one page for easy access. This is a time saver and allows almost instant access to all your games! In order to use this feature, you must log in to your account and complete your user profile. Failure to complete your profile will prevent your students from using this feature!
Search Feature: Finding the particular topic you are currently working on could take a long time if you had to search through each game, so a very powerful search function is built into the site. The built in search engine is an extremely powerful tool to help you find the particular game/topic you are looking for. This can be accessed from any page on the upper left hand side. If you are looking for a game on “immunology” and you get no results, try to broaden your search term by using “immune” instead. If the provided search is not helping there is a built in Google Search Feature which allows students and teachers to maximize their search results.
Bookmark: Each page has an easy to use social book marking link. When students or teachers click on this link, they are able to create an instant link back to a particular game or topic they were working on. This proves invaluable when students are working at school and want to continue with a game at home or at a different computer.
Questions: If you have any questions about the review game zone and its ability to generate free review games for the classroom, please do not hesitate to use the “contact us” link.
